ayurveda massage

Ayurveda, also called Ayurveda medicine began with Hinduism and Buddhism. It’s one of the oldest holistic practices, thought to be over a thousand years old.

It focuses on moderation and balance of the mind, body and soul to increase longevity. This is accomplished by creating normality of chakras and Qi within the body, which create homeostatic.

This holistic treatment works alongside of modern medicines to continue good health rather than fight the diseases themselves.

If diseases do occur specific oils will be used to reestablish the balance, which will assist the person to have a healthier, happier life.

According to the Ayurveda practice, everything in the universe has a connection, whether it’s living or not. So to achieve good health your mind, body and soul has to be in sync with the universe.  If this harmony’s disrupted you will become ill.

Some possible disturbance includes; injures, changing weather, birth defects, genetics emotion and age.

They also believe everyone has a Prakriti. This is made up of your personality, appearance, health, and body maintained. They believe Prakriti generally stays the same, unless you have digestive, or constipation issues.

Besides Prakriti, everyone is made up of five essential components of the universe, they are; fire, water, space, air and earth.

These five mechanisms work together to create energy known as doshas. This massive energy force’s broken into three sub groups they are; vata dosha, space and air, pita dosha, fire and water and kapha dosha, water and earth.

It’s thought that one dominates a person more than the others and since they’re responsible for a specific area of the body, a person will become sick when their dominate energy’s out of harmony.

Vata dosh

This is the strongest of the three. It controls the basic body tasks which include breathing, blood pressure, heart rate elimination, and cell division.

The things that might disrupt harmony include; fear, grief, staying up late, eating meals too close together, and eating dry fruit.

If this is your dominate energy you will experience things like asthma, heart disease, nervous system disorders,, RA, anxiety and skin issues.

Pitta Dosha

It’s responsible for digestion, food absorbing and waste. It’ also responsible for your body’s hormone levels. Eating spicy, sour foods, if you’re fatigued or spend too much time in the sun you can upset this balance.

If this is your dominate energy you could develop Crohns’s disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, heartburn, infections. You might anger easily and have a negative outlook.

They further believe that in order for someone to reestablish harmony with the universe, certain massage techniques needs to be performed, with specific healing oils. The oil used depends on the problems the person’s experiencing.

I’ll explain a little about each of the techniques and the oils in the following paragraphs.

Abhyangam

The chosen oil’s warmed to a comfortable temperature. The person will receive a massage of long, flowing movements.

This is to ensure the entire body is warm and it gives ample time for absorption. The masseuse will use more pressure when working their way down the body.

This is to balance the body’s prana, life forces. The use of these oils and essential herbs balances the Vata Dosha.

This type of treatment will cure aliments like; fatigue, stress, muscle soreness, stiffness and back pain.

Udvartana

This brisk movement helps increase blood flow and removes harmful toxins from your body.

This type of treatment is used for joint mobility, improving muscle tone, weight loss, lowering cholesterol levels, exfoliating your skin and removing unnecessary Kapha Dosha.
